Ask how dim sum is ordered at that restaurant: from a menu, a paper sheet, a screen or another service system. Check which days and times the dim sum menu is available. The format can differ between locations.

Understand each order

Read how many pieces or portions come with an item and ask which dishes are suitable for sharing. Ask staff about unfamiliar fillings and preparations. Photographs can help identify a dish, but they do not replace the menu description or a direct answer.

Start with a small selection

Choose a manageable first round and ask whether you can add dishes as the meal progresses. Share your preferences with staff if the menu is unfamiliar. Confirm ingredient restrictions before ordering rather than after the food reaches the table.

Check the practical details

Ask how the restaurant tracks orders and handles tea, extra items and payment. For a group, check reservation and seating arrangements beforehand. Review the bill against the orders your table received and ask staff about anything you do not recognise.
